We are so proud of our own Berit von Pohle—La Sierra University’s Alumna of the Year!

Berit von Pohle, vice president for education of the Pacific Union Conference, received the prestigious award at La Sierra’s homecoming weekend April 13-15. Joy Fehr, president of La Sierra University, said this in her introduction:

“Throughout her extensive career in Seventh-day Adventist education, Dr. Berit von Pohle has acted on a call to ministry and to a vision of Christ-centered educational excellence that comes from her deep La Sierra roots. She earned four education degrees from the La Sierra University campus—a bachelor’s in business education in 1979, a Master of Arts degree in counseling and guidance in 1986, and an Educational Specialist degree as well as a Doctorate in Education in educational administration in 1994 and 2013 respectively.”

From assisting with life-threatening ER crises to delivering babies and caring for the elderly in their last moments, nurses perform some of the most difficult, gratifying, and heartbreaking tasks in the medical world. As workers who perform the most essential healthcare tasks, nurses serve as the first point of contact for most patients.
National Nurses Week honors their contributions and sacrifices and reminds us to thank the medical professionals who keep us healthy. It’s celebrated between May 6, National Nurses Day, and May 12, the birthdate of celebrated nurse Florence Nightingale.

On Sunday, May 14, we will be celebrating Mother’s Day—a holiday honoring motherhood that’s observed in different forms throughout the world. The American version of Mother's Day was created by Anna Jarvis in 1908 and became an official U.S. holiday in 1914.
